Don’t lose patience! Yes, sometimes everything goes wrong. The machine stitches oddly, we sew inside-out, the bobbin runs out mid-stitch. It’s discouraging. In these moments, I pause and ponder. Is it critical if I don’t finish today? What if I don’t? Urgency might lead to shortcuts. I rush, skipping pressing or backstitching, thinking it saves time, but often it’s the opposite; the machine messes up, there are folds, and I have to rip out stitches. Frustrating!
And you, what happens if you don’t finish? Will you be angry? Disappointed? Sad? Perhaps finishing next time will yield better results, making you even prouder. More satisfied for having done better without pressure, for listening to yourself, taking time to care for your emotions, adapting your approach, taking a step towards resilience.
It’s not easy accepting a project taking longer than expected. Yet, letting go is a breath of fresh air when welcomed with kindness. Not giving up, just accepting life’s lesson.
Afterward, I adjust my goals towards a more realistic one. And often, I achieve them. The lesson?
- Under pressure, I pay less attention to details, risking errors. To avoid this, it’s better to take necessary time.
- With luck, I face sewing machine malfunctions and become even better at using it.
- Being frustrated is okay, as long as you don’t let it block you. Accept failure to overcome it better, accept unpleasant emotions to move on more easily.
No one ever told you, but learning to sew is also learning to cultivate patience. For those with little patience, it’s quite a trial. The effort is worth it. Cultivating patience is a great way to reduce stress. Through this activity, doors to personal development open! By persevering, you’ll sew yourself pants and keep calm in situations that would have previously made you raise your voice.
I encourage you, my dear little kiwis, to embark on or continue this enriching adventure!
